Architecture Beyond Sight

Architecture Beyond Sight was a week long foundation level course for blind and partially sighted people to learn about architecture. Hosted by the Bartlett, UCL and run by the DisOrdinary Architecture Project, the course was taught by blind and partially sighted creatives. It recognised the potential blind people could bring to architecture and helped address barriers to architecture education.

I was fortunate to be a founder participant on the first iteration of Architecture Beyond Sight, an experience that not only set me up for my architecture degree, but also shaped my understanding of myself as a disabled person.

In 2022, I returned as a tutor on the second Architecture Beyond Sight, working in the workshops alongside blind lighting designer Duncan Meerding and the B-Made workshop team. In both years, the key output of the workshop group was a carefully crafted timber box responding to a site visit to the British Library.

Architecture Beyond Sight is currently a dormant project while we explore funding options for future courses.
